Background

A record built in the courtroom.

Peter Tarpey began his career on the defense side of personal injury litigation. For nine years he defended claims for insurance companies and learned how carriers evaluate cases, where they look for weakness, and how they defend them. In 2000, he switched sides to represent injured people.

He won a record-setting $10.6 million jury verdict in his first case as a plaintiff’s lawyer.

In his first case tried as a plaintiff’s lawyer, Mr. Tarpey obtained a record-setting $10.6 million jury verdict. Since then, he has tried more than 75 cases to jury verdict against trucking companies, hospitals, doctors, airlines, and construction contractors, and secured multiple multimillion-dollar recoveries, including a $4.75 million settlement against a hospital for medical negligence, a $2.6 million settlement for an injured flight attendant, and a $1.5 million jury verdict against a physician for malpractice.

A third-generation Chicago trial lawyer, Mr. Tarpey focuses on serious injury and wrongful death cases that demand courtroom preparation. Super Lawyers Magazine has named him a Super Lawyer in personal injury every year since 2013.
